Hyderabad: The Rangareddy District Health Department organised a World Hepatitis Day awareness programme at the Mailardevpally Primary Health Centre to educate people about hepatitis prevention, early detection and treatment.
District Medical and Health Officer Dr Swarna Kumari, who attended the programme as the chief guest, said hepatitis is a serious disease that affects the liver. She urged people to undergo timely screening and seek treatment at the earliest, adding that the disease can be effectively controlled through early diagnosis and proper medical care.
She stressed that Hepatitis-B vaccination, consumption of safe food and clean drinking water, safe blood transfusions and the use of sterile injections are essential measures to prevent hepatitis. She also appealed to the public to remain alert to symptoms and visit the nearest government health centre for free screening and medical services if they suspect an infection.
World Hepatitis Day highlights preventive measures
Dr Swarna Kumari called on people to create awareness in their communities and contribute to the elimination of hepatitis. She said public participation is crucial in achieving better health outcomes and reducing the burden of the disease.
Programme officers Dr Rakesh, Dr Jyothibai, Dr Sameena and Medical Officer Dr Rekha participated in the event along with health staff. They educated attendees about hepatitis symptoms, prevention, treatment and the importance of vaccination. Information pamphlets were distributed, and participants were advised to follow healthy practices.
Doctors, health staff, ASHA workers and local residents attended the awareness programme.
