Grandson arrested for grandmother murder over jewellery in Medak

Hyderabad: Police have solved a grandmother murder case in Medak district by arresting the victim’s grandson and his friend for allegedly killing the elderly woman and stealing her jewellery.

Ramayampet Circle Inspector Saidanayak said the crime came to light during the investigation into the death of 60-year-old Sayamma, a resident of Ramayampet town. Initially, family members believed she had died of a heart attack on June 18 and began making funeral arrangements.

Sayamma is survived by a son and two daughters. While her daughters are married, she had been living alone, and her son resided separately. Suspicion arose after her son, Shyam, noticed injury marks on her neck and approached the police on June 21.

Based on his complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, officers found that Vishal, the son of Sayamma’s younger daughter Lakshmi, had been present at her house on the night of her death.

Police crack grandmother murder case after questioning grandson

Investigators detained Vishal for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to committing the crime along with his friend Prashant.

According to police, the duo targeted Sayamma for money and jewellery. They allegedly mixed an intoxicating substance into a drink before attacking her. After she became unconscious, they reportedly strangled her and fled with her earrings and a ring.

Police subsequently arrested both Vishal and Prashant. Officers also recovered the stolen jewellery and seized a mobile phone as part of the investigation.

The arrests brought the grandmother murder case to a close and revealed that the crime was allegedly driven by financial motives. Further investigation into the case is continuing.
