ACB registers disproportionate assets case against Nizamabad excise officer

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a disproportionate assets case against Kommuri Mallareddy, District Prohibition and Excise Officer (Excise Superintendent) of Nizamabad district, alleging that he acquired assets beyond his known sources of income through corrupt practices during his service.

The case was booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. Following the registration of the case, ACB officials conducted searches on June 23 at the officer’s residence and 10 other locations linked to his relatives, benamis and associates.

According to the ACB, investigators detected five structures during the searches, including four residential houses and one commercial building. Officials also identified eight open plots and 10.23 acres of agricultural land.

The agency stated that it found approximately Rs 3.31 lakh in cash and bank balances amounting to Rs 50 lakh. Three bank lockers held in the names of the accused officer’s wife and other family members were also detected and will be opened as part of the ongoing investigation.

Disproportionate assets case reveals properties and bank deposits

ACB officials further recovered one Grand Vitara car and a TVS scooty during the searches. The total value of the assets detected was estimated at around Rs 3 crore based on available records.

Investigators noted that the market value of the immovable properties could be significantly higher than their documented value. Verification of additional assets is also underway as part of the probe.

The ACB said the disproportionate assets case remains under investigation. The accused officer was being produced before the II Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases Court at Nampally, Hyderabad, for judicial remand.

The bureau reiterated its appeal to the public to report bribery demands by public servants through its toll-free helpline and other official channels, assuring confidentiality for complainants.
