Palvai Harish Babu represents Sirpur constituency as BJP MLA

Hyderabad: Dr Palvai Harish Babu is presently serving as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Sirpur. He entered the Telangana Legislative Assembly in December 2023 after winning the election by 3,088 votes, defeating his nearest rival from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Political and personal background

Born on 5 July 1981 in Rebbena village, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, Palvai Harish Babu is a medical doctor. He completed his MBBS from Osmania Medical College in 2004. He later earned an MS in Orthopaedics from Sri Ramachandra University in 2010 and a DNB in Orthopaedics in 2011.

Politics runs in his family. His father, the late Purushottam Rao Palvai, won as an independent MLA from Sirpur in 1989 and 1994. His mother, Palvai Rajyalakshmi, represented the constituency in 1999. Harish Babu began his career with the Indian National Congress but moved to the BJP in 2021.

In February 2024, the BJP appointed him as the Legislature Party Chief Whip in the Telangana Assembly.

According to his 2023 election affidavit, he declared assets worth about Rs 4.19 crore. This marked a sharp rise from the Rs 1.65 crore he reported in 2018.
