Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police detected the Hill Ridge Villas theft case and arrested three accused in Uttar Pradesh while recovering the entire stolen property, including nearly 8 kg of gold ornaments, silver items and cash. The breakthrough came within days of the theft reported at a villa in Hill Ridge Villas, Gachibowli.
The case surfaced after an elderly couple returned to their residence on June 7 and noticed that a gold chain adorning a small idol was missing. The following day, their son opened a locker using a key available with him and found that approximately 7–8 kilograms of gold ornaments and about 1.5 kilograms of silver ornaments had been stolen.
Following the complaint, Cyberabad Police launched an intensive investigation. Commissioner of Police Dr M. Ramesh immediately deployed Special Operations Teams, crime teams and local police units to track the suspects. Multiple teams worked on available leads and traced the movement of the accused across state borders.
Six police teams were dispatched to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand. Investigators also coordinated with police authorities in the respective states and received support from a special team constituted to track Nepali criminal gangs operating in Hyderabad.
Hill Ridge Villas theft investigation leads to interstate arrests
On June 9, Inspector P. Naresh and his team, with assistance from Rampur district police in Uttar Pradesh, apprehended three accused on Bilaspur Road in Rampur district. The arrested persons were identified as Kamal Shahi, Vimla Shahi alias Bimala Shahi and Kalpana Shahi, all natives of Nepal.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly targeted affluent families living in high-end villas by securing employment as domestic workers. Police said an absconding accused, identified as Suresh alias Suraj, allegedly brought workers from Nepal and placed them in expensive residences to gather information about the occupants’ routines and periods of absence.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they located the locker key kept near the locker, opened it, removed the jewellery, relocked the locker and took away the key before fleeing. Police recovered approximately 7.837 kilograms of gold ornaments, 1.361 kilograms of silver items, Rs.33,170 in cash and two mobile phones from their possession.
The accused are being produced before a local court, and police are taking steps to secure a transit warrant to bring them to Hyderabad. Further investigation is continuing to trace the absconding suspects and examine possible links to similar offences.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr M. Ramesh appreciated the officers involved in the operation and announced cash rewards for the teams that played a key role in the swift detection of the case and complete recovery of the stolen property.
