Hyderabad: Syed Khalid Saifullah on Friday called for an immediate resolution to the ongoing RTC strike, stressing that prolonged disruption was affecting millions dependent on public transport.
He visited the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station and met employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. Along with party leaders, he appealed for restoration of services in the larger public interest.
Public hardship grows as RTC strike continues despite progress
Saifullah said the government had already accepted 29 out of 32 demands, demonstrating a willingness to resolve issues. Therefore, he argued that continuing the RTC strike was not justified.
He detailed financial improvements, noting regular salary payments and clearance of long-pending dues. Furthermore, liabilities including bonds, PF dues and CCS obligations had been significantly reduced.
The government, he added, was paying Rs 75 crore monthly to stabilise finances. In addition, employment measures included ongoing recruitments, compassionate appointments and reinstatement of dismissed staff.
He cautioned that RTC, which serves nearly 65 lakh passengers daily, remained essential for women, students and workers. Consequently, the RTC strike was causing widespread inconvenience.
Saifullah also accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi of aggravating tensions. He said political statements should remain responsible to avoid escalation.
He expressed grief over the death of driver Shankar Goud and reiterated that dialogue was the only sustainable solution. He urged unions to end the strike and resume operations.
