Hyderabad: A road accident near Kanyakumari claimed the lives of a Telangana couple who were returning after darshan at Sabarimala, police said on Thursday.
Police identified the victims as Palakurthi Satyanarayana (63) and his wife Ramadevi (59), residents of Lakshettipet in Mancherial district. The couple ran a general store in their hometown. Recently, they observed Ayyappa deeksha and travelled to Sabarimala in a private service vehicle on January 8.
After offering prayers on January 15, which coincided with Makar Sankranti, the couple began their return journey. Meanwhile, the vehicle halted on the bypass road near Kanyakumari. At that point, the couple got down to bathe in the sea and visit nearby temples.

However, while walking back towards the bus, a speeding vehicle struck them on the bypass road. As a result, both Satyanarayana and Ramadevi died on the spot due to severe injuries, police said.
Later, officials shifted the bodies to the Kanyakumari Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Subsequently, Kanyakumari police registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Police said they would gather more details after examining eyewitness statements and checking vehicle records linked to the incident.
