Hyderabad: The Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission has identified key deficiencies in agricultural marketing, intensifying efforts toward Telangana Market Reforms.
The Commission carried out surprise inspections across prominent markets, starting with Enumamula Market in Warangal. During these visits, officials found that farmers dealing in vegetables, fruits, and flowers were not receiving fair treatment.
Telangana Market Reforms focus on addressing middlemen dominance and pricing gaps
A major issue highlighted was the widespread presence of intermediaries, which has limited farmers’ access to fair market prices. Consequently, the Commission emphasised the need to curb middlemen influence and ensure better returns for producers.
In addition, a comprehensive review meeting was held, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders. Participants included farmers, farmer organisations, market committee officials, commission agents, natural farming practitioners, ITDA officials, and media representatives.
Chairman M. Kodand Reddy stated that valuable suggestions were received during the discussions. These inputs will be incorporated into a detailed report for submission to the state government.
Furthermore, the Commission reiterated its resolve to introduce reforms that promote transparency and fairness in agricultural marketing, ensuring long-term benefits for farmers.
