Roblox Age-Based Accounts Roll Out in June

Hyderabad: Roblox Corporation has announced Roblox Age-Based Accounts, set to roll out in early June, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve safety for younger users.

The system introduces Roblox Kids accounts for ages 5 to 8 and Roblox Select accounts for ages 9 to 15. These accounts are designed to align content access and communication features with age-specific needs.

Roblox Age-Based Accounts strengthen moderation and introduce dynamic game selection

Under the new framework, Roblox will implement a continuous evaluation process to determine which games are suitable for users under 16. This includes developer verification, content maturity ratings, and real-time monitoring of user interactions.

For Roblox Kids accounts, communication is disabled by default, and access is limited to games with Minimal or Mild ratings. In contrast, Roblox Select accounts allow access to games rated up to Moderate.

Moreover, users will automatically transition between account types as they age, ensuring age-appropriate experiences without manual intervention.

The update also expands parental control features. Parents can block individual games, manage chat settings, and approve specific content not included in default account settings.

Matt Kaufman emphasised that safety is an evolving process, while Larry Magid praised the initiative for improving protection standards.

Roblox further confirmed plans to integrate the International Age Rating Coalition system, providing region-specific content ratings.
