Chinese manja racket busted in Secunderabad zone, 12 arrested

Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police arrested 12 suppliers and sellers involved in a Chinese manja racket across the Secunderabad zone. Police seized 162 bobbins of banned nylon kite string worth about ₹1.88 lakh.

Police registered separate cases at Kachiguda Police Station, Domalguda Police Station, and Amberpet Police Station. Officers booked the accused under Sections 223 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act. Meanwhile, police said the accused stocked and sold Chinese manja illegally ahead of the kite-flying season.

In the Chikkadpally Division under Kachiguda limits, police arrested five persons after raiding shops at Mothi Market and Dhoolpet. Officers seized 106 bobbins of Chinese manja and three mobile phones. The arrested include sellers Nomula Santosh Kumar and his mother Nomula Pushpa, supplier Lalith Singh, and two others. Moreover, police said Lalith Singh had earlier faced NDPS Act cases. During questioning, he admitted that he procured the stock from Lal Kuan in Old Delhi nearly two months ago.

Chinese manja racket cases booked in three divisions

Meanwhile, in the Gandhi Nagar Division, Domalguda police arrested four students for selling banned Chinese manja near NTR Stadium during routine patrols. Officers seized eight bobbins worth ₹10,000. Additionally, police said the accused sold the material on a commission basis, while another accused remains absconding.

Similarly, in the Osmania University Division, Amberpet police arrested one person and booked two others who are absconding. Officers seized 48 bobbins valued at ₹72,000 from the accused.

Senior officers of the Secunderabad zone supervised all arrests. Furthermore, police reiterated that the Telangana government imposed a complete ban on the manufacture, sale, storage, and use of Chinese manja under G.O. Ms. No. 6 dated January 17, 2018. Officials warned that the banned string poses a serious threat to humans, birds, and animals. Therefore, police said they will take strict action against anyone violating the ban.
