Hyderabad: Telangana has achieved a national record in paddy procurement, with the state government announcing plans to purchase 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy worth Rs.25,000 crore this season.
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy made the announcement in Suryapet district, assuring farmers that all rain-soaked grain would be purchased. “This is a pro-farmer government committed to ensuring that no cultivator suffers a loss,” he said.
Record procurement and prompt payments
Reddy said Telangana’s procurement performance was unmatched since Independence. He credited the achievement to timely policy decisions, efficient operations, and strong institutional monitoring.
Farmers are receiving payments within 48 hours, along with eligible bonuses. District Collectors and local representatives have been tasked with ensuring full transparency and speed in operations.
Strengthening rural infrastructure and livelihoods
During his visit to Gaddipalli, the Minister laid the foundation for a two-lane road costing Rs.8.28 crore, connecting the village to the upcoming Rs.250 crore Young India Integrated Residential School. The school aims to expand access to quality education for students from marginalised sections.
