Congress confident of Jubilee Hills bypoll win: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday said the Congress party was confident of a clear win in the Jubilee Hills bypoll. He cited several public and internal surveys showing strong support for the party.

During a door-to-door campaign in Krishna Nagar, Yusufguda division, Reddy was joined by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other senior leaders. He said the victory of Congress candidate Naveen Yadav was certain, pointing to visible voter support and favourable polling data.

Reddy accused the previous BRS government of neglecting poor residents in Jubilee Hills for a decade. He said not a single white ration card was issued during their rule. In contrast, the Congress government sanctioned 40,000 white ration cards in Jubilee Hills alone. Across Telangana, the number increased from 89 lakh to 1.15 crore.

He added that the Congress administration launched a major fine rice distribution drive under the public distribution system. The programme benefited 3.15 crore people across the state. It mainly targeted SC, ST, BC and minority families that had been ignored under the previous regime.

Welfare impact cited in Jubilee Hills bypoll campaign

Reddy said 85% of Telangana’s population from marginalised groups now receives fine rice under the Congress government. He said welfare initiatives such as the Mahalakshmi scheme, offering free bus travel for women, and the Gruha Jyothi scheme, providing 200 units of free electricity, had eased the burden on poor households.

He accused the BJP and BRS of spreading false propaganda against the Congress. “Parties that ignored the people with low-income for years now attack a government delivering real welfare,” he said. Reddy credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka for earning public trust that, he said, would ensure a Congress victory in the bypoll.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also addressed the gathering. He alleged a covert understanding between the BJP and BRS to weaken Congress and urged voters to reject it.

Prabhakar questioned Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s contribution to the constituency. He asked what development funds Kishan Reddy had brought to Jubilee Hills as MP and minister. The remarks, he said, reflected the opposition’s poor development record.

Several senior Congress leaders attended the campaign, including Shadnagar MLA K. Shankaraiah, TPCC Working President Mohammad Azharuddin, Sports Authority Chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, ST Corporation Chairman Bellaiah Naik, AICC Secretary Sampath Kumar, Mahila Congress President K. Sunitha Rao, and TPCC General Secretary Bollu Kishan.
