Hyderabad water supply suspension highlights reliance on Godavari project

Hyderabad: A two-day suspension of the Hyderabad water supply underscores the city’s dependence on the Godavari project for drinking water.

From 6 a.m. on September 9 to 6 a.m. on September 11, repairs under Phase-1 will stop supply to large areas. HMWSSB officials said 900 mm dia valves are being replaced and repairs carried out at key pumping stations.

Hyderabad water supply disruption affects households and businesses

The impact will stretch across multiple divisions, including upscale areas like Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, tech corridors in Kondapur and Gachibowli, and residential clusters in Kukatpally, Pragatinagar, Kompally, and Nizampet.

Rural supply points such as Aler and Ghanpur will also face disruption.

The board has asked residents to prepare for the outage. Analysts note that the disruption highlights both the scale of Hyderabad’s water infrastructure and the vulnerability of urban households to system maintenance.
