Hyderabad: Police arrested a fake police officer for impersonating security personnel at the Telangana Secretariat and attempting to mislead the public by claiming links to the Chief Minister’s Office.
The accused, identified as Thaturi Ravi, also known as Charan Yadavu and Nikhil Yadavu, is a 31-year-old hotel worker from Amberpet. Police said he entered the Secretariat premises on April 26 wearing a full police uniform and posed as a constable attached to the Chief Minister’s security detail.
Officials said the accused approached members of the public and falsely claimed he could arrange direct meetings with the Chief Minister without prior appointments. Investigators found that he recorded and uploaded a video on Instagram while in uniform to gain public trust.
Fake police officer used social media to build false identity
Police said the fake police officer developed an obsession with the uniform after previously working at a canteen in Goshamahal in 2018. He later purchased police gear and began posing as an officer both in public and on social media platforms.
The accused was arrested on April 29, and a case was registered at Saifabad Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. Officers seized police uniforms, caps, a name plate, whistle cords and a mobile phone from his possession.
Police said Inspector N. Rajender is leading the investigation under the supervision of senior officers in Saifabad division. Authorities urged the public to remain cautious and follow official procedures for any government-related requests.
