Hyderabad: The Samata kitchen initiative was launched in Hyderabad to promote inclusive livelihoods for transgender persons, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.
State Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated the facility at the Collectorate as part of the Praja Palana – Pragati Plan (99 Days Programme). He said the government is prioritising welfare schemes to ensure benefits reach every eligible beneficiary.
The minister stated that the Samata Kitchen aims to generate employment opportunities for marginalised groups. He added that integrating these sections into economic activities will drive inclusive growth and financial empowerment.
During the event, officials distributed ₹75,000 each to six transgender beneficiaries under the Economic Rehabilitation Scheme. They also provided battery-operated wheelchairs worth ₹1,18,500 to five persons with disabilities.
Samata kitchen initiative expands welfare outreach
Officials said the Samata Kitchen has already created jobs for six transgender persons and one person with a disability. The initiative focuses on sustainable livelihoods along with ongoing welfare support.
The minister highlighted that Telangana has around 10.47 lakh persons with disabilities and nearly 10 lakh elderly people. In Hyderabad district alone, about 2 lakh elderly residents require support.
Authorities have issued over 50,000 SADAREM certificates and 5,000 UDID cards. They are also providing pensions to 29,902 persons with disabilities and identity cards to 404 transgender persons in the district.
Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav said transgender persons are an integral part of society and assured support for the initiative. MLA Danam Nagender highlighted growing opportunities and called for greater representation in governance.
District Collector Harichandana Dasari said the administration is focusing on skill development and employment generation tailored to individual capabilities to strengthen long-term livelihoods.
