ATM theft foiled in Miyapur as police arrest accused on the spot

Hyderabad: Police responded swiftly to a Dial-100 alert and arrested an accused involved in an attempted ATM theft in Miyapur, thereby preventing a major loss, a senior police official said.

The incident took place on the night of January 4, 2026, at a State Bank of India ATM in Marthandanagar, Hafeezpet, under the jurisdiction of Miyapur Police Station in the Madapur zone. Upon receiving information that a theft was in progress, police immediately rushed to the location.

At the scene, officers conducted a preliminary check and took the accused into custody. Police identified him as V. Katamaiah (24), a native of Georgepet village in Akkampalli mandal of Anantapur district. Notably, officers caught him while he was attempting to break into the ATM.

Subsequently, police registered a case and launched a detailed investigation to determine whether the accused had links to similar offences elsewhere.

Miyapur ACP CH Y Srinivas Kumar said the team’s timely response helped avert significant damage at the ATM. Moreover, he praised the staff for acting quickly on the Dial-100 input.

Meanwhile, police urged citizens to report any suspicious activity through Dial-100 without delay. Officials reiterated that public safety remains their top priority and assured immediate action on every alert.

The police carried out the operation as part of routine night patrolling under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
