Job loss drives young man to suicide attempt; dies after three days in hospital

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old man died on Friday evening after attempting suicide following job loss. He had battled for life for three days at a city hospital, police said.

Police identified the deceased as Chevagoni Manoj, a resident of Dharmojigudem village in Choutuppal mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. According to Choutuppal Circle Inspector G. Manmadhakumar, Manoj worked as a lab technician in Gachibowli. His employer recently terminated him.

Police said Manoj returned to his village on December 31 afternoon after consuming rat poison. Later that night, his parents noticed him vomiting and questioned him. Manoj then told them that he consumed poison after losing his job.

Family members rushed him to the Choutuppal Government Hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors shifted him to Osmania Hospital. Doctors later referred him to Yashoda Hospital for advanced treatment.

Despite treatment for three days, Manoj died on Friday evening.

Job loss suicide case under probe

Police said Manoj was the elder son of Chevagoni Dasharatha. Both brothers worked in private jobs to support the family. After his death, Manoj’s father filed a complaint, following which police registered a case.

The Circle Inspector said police are investigating all circumstances that led to the suicide attempt.
