Hyderabad: In an unusual but impactful move, local courts in Hyderabad ordered 104 individuals cleaning work of parks and hospitals for public offences such as open drinking, creating nuisance, and violating traffic rules.
Over the past two days, police assigned the offenders to clean major public spaces. Forty-two people worked at Krishna Kanth Park in Yousufguda, while 40 cleaned Chacha Nehru Park in Masab Tank. Another 22 cleaned the premises of Erragadda Mental Hospital.
Officials said the courts issued these directions to promote civic responsibility and to discourage repeat offences.
cleaning work for public offenders aims to build awareness
The initiative reflects a growing preference for community service instead of fines or jail terms for certain non-violent offences. Police said the effort keeps public places clean and builds awareness among violators and the wider community.
Authorities warned that drinking in public, creating disturbances or breaking traffic rules would lead to strict action. They urged citizens to follow civic norms to avoid legal consequences and social embarrassment.
