New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu presented the MY Bharat NSS Awards 2022-23 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, reinforcing the role of youth in nation-building. The audience included Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse. Senior leaders, notably Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil and Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, added institutional support.
The Department of Youth Affairs administers the awards each year to encourage sustained service. For 2022-23, ten NSS Units and their ten Programme Officers earned honors for programme outcomes. Additionally, 30 Volunteers were recognized for visible community results.
Monetary support accompanies recognition. Each Unit received ₹2,00,000 for programme development and a trophy. Moreover, each Programme Officer earned ₹1,50,000, a certificate, and a silver medal. Every Volunteer received ₹1,00,000, plus a certificate and a silver medal. Consequently, units can scale initiatives while mentors and volunteers continue field work.

MY Bharat NSS Awards connect Gandhian values with measurable grassroots progress
NSS began in 1969 as a Central Sector Scheme to develop student character through service. Its motto, “Not Me, But You,” draws directly from Gandhian ideals. Therefore, volunteers learn leadership by solving real problems. Today, about 40 lakh volunteers contribute across India.
Programme themes evolve with local demand. Volunteers promote literacy and education. They strengthen health, family welfare, and nutrition. Furthermore, they advance environment conservation and social service programmes. They support women’s empowerment and foster economic development activities. In addition, they assist rescue and relief during calamities. Finally, they take up Swachhata activities that improve sanitation and dignity.
The MY Bharat NSS Awards 2022-23 thus serve a dual purpose. They celebrate excellence, and they also guide institutions toward proven models. As a result, youth-led service aligns national priorities with community needs.
