Secunderabad snatching offender arrested with gold recovery

Hyderabad: Railway Police and RPF in Secunderabad apprehended a snatching offender arrested case and recovered gold ornaments following two chain-snatching incidents on trains.

Officials identified the accused as Annapu Reddy Srinivas Reddy, 51, a resident of Medchal-Malkajgiri district. He was arrested on April 9, 2026, while moving suspiciously on platform number 4 of Secunderabad Railway Station.

Police said the accused, a retired Army personnel who served for 30 years until 2024, was working as a field officer at a private security firm in Ghatkesar. Investigators found that financial losses in share market investments and involvement in online betting pushed him towards committing thefts.

According to the investigation, the accused carried out two chain-snatching offences on consecutive days aboard the Kakatiya Express. On April 2, 2026, he attempted to snatch a gold mangalsutra from a woman passenger. The victim resisted, resulting in only a portion of the chain, weighing about 15 grams, being taken before he jumped from the moving train near Lalaguda.

The next day, on April 3, 2026, he snatched another gold chain from a woman passenger on the same train route and escaped by jumping off near Charlapally Railway Station.

Snatching offender arrested after train thefts

Police apprehended the accused on April 9 while he was allegedly preparing to commit another offence. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crimes registered under Crime Nos. 174/2026 and 176/2026 at Secunderabad Railway Police Station.

Authorities recovered about 50 grams of gold ornaments worth approximately ₹7,50,000 from his possession. The recovery included stolen chains linked to the offences.

The operation was carried out by GRP Secunderabad in coordination with RPF personnel. Senior officers supervised the investigation and commended the team for the successful apprehension and recovery.
