Arrive Alive programme to curb road accidents

Hyderabad: The Chief Secretary has instructed officials to roll out the Arrive Alive programme across Telangana to curb rising road accidents and improve safety standards.

Speaking during a video conference with District Collectors, K. Ramakrishna Rao noted that accidents continue to rise despite ongoing safety measures. He explained that the surge stems from increasing vehicle numbers, higher speeds on improved roads, and reckless driving habits.

To address this, he urged officials to prioritise road safety and design innovative, location-specific solutions. Additionally, he directed authorities to immediately convene District Road Safety Committee meetings to ensure effective planning and execution of the week-long programme.

Moreover, the Chief Secretary emphasised the importance of involving public representatives to boost participation and awareness. He added that only coordinated efforts and sustained campaigns can help save lives and promote responsible road usage.

Arrive Alive programme focuses on targeted activities

The Arrive Alive programme will run from April 13 to 18, featuring focused activities across the state. To begin with, village-level Road Safety Committees will be formed on April 13. This will be followed by a road safety pledge on April 14 during Ambedkar Jayanti.

Next, April 15 will be observed as Children’s Road Safety Day, highlighting the importance of seat belt use for children. On April 16, awareness campaigns will target government employees, encouraging helmet and seat belt usage.

Furthermore, authorities will conduct “Golden Hour” emergency response training on April 17 to strengthen post-accident care. Finally, counselling sessions for traffic violators on April 18 will aim to promote behavioural change.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy described the initiative as a comprehensive, multi-departmental effort. He pointed out that pedestrians and two-wheeler riders account for the majority of accident victims, underscoring the need for targeted awareness campaigns.

Senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj and other department heads, also attended the review meeting.
