Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) seized 4 kg of ganja and arrested three accused in a joint operation with Borabanda Police, officials said.
The Hyderabad ganja seizure took place on April 4, 2026, following credible information about illegal drug activity. Police apprehended two suppliers and one local peddler within the Borabanda Police Station limits.
Officials seized contraband along with a TVS Jupiter scooter and three mobile phones. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹2.5 lakh. A case was registered under Cr. No.193/2026 under Sections 8(c), 20(b), and 27(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The accused were identified as G. Rakesh (25), a bike mechanic, and Bt. Vijay Kumar (21), a centring labourer, both from Malkangiri district of Odisha. The third accused, Kotha Tirumala Reddy (27), a resident of Borabanda, worked as a driver.
Police said Tirumala Reddy had earlier run a fish aquarium business but shut it due to losses. He later turned to drug peddling to clear debts and earn illegal income.
Hyderabad ganja seizure exposed supply network
Investigators found that Tirumala Reddy sourced ganja from the Odisha-based suppliers at low prices and sold it locally at higher rates. The suppliers themselves procured the contraband from an absconding आरोपी in Odisha.
Transactions were carried out using both cash and UPI methods, indicating an organised supply chain. The Hyderabad ganja seizure highlighted links between interstate suppliers and local distributors.
The operation was led by Inspector B Venkat of H-NEW along with SI C Venkata Ramulu and their teams, under the supervision of senior officers.
Officials warned that drug abuse is increasingly affecting students, professionals, and youth. They urged parents to monitor their children’s activities and appealed to citizens to report drug-related information.
