Hyderabad: A Special POCSO Court in Hyderabad awarded a five-year rigorous imprisonment to an accused in a child abuse case, marking a key development in a long-pending trial.
The court, presided over by Judge G Uday Bhaskar Rao at HACA Bhavan, convicted Abdul Salman (22), a mason from Bandlaguda. The POCSO court sentence included five years in jail and a fine of ₹20,000. The court found him guilty under Sections 354 and 506 of the IPC and Section 12 read with 11 of the POCSO Act.
The case dates back to January 29, 2020. The accused had allegedly lured five minor girls, aged between 5 and 9 years, near Ghouse Nagar by offering to show magic tricks.
He then took them into a hut, where he showed obscene videos, restrained them, and threatened them before fleeing the scene.
The victims later recorded their statements in a child-friendly setting at the Bharosa Centre, ensuring minimal trauma during the legal process.
POCSO court sentence followed detailed victim support
The Bharosa Centre team played a key role in supporting the victims throughout the case. They provided counselling, emotional care, and regular follow-up assistance to both the children and their families.
As a result, the prosecution built a strong case that led to the conviction. The POCSO court sentence brought relief and a sense of justice to the affected families after years of proceedings.
Officials said such convictions send a clear message against crimes targeting children. They added that coordinated efforts between police, courts, and support teams remain crucial in ensuring justice in sensitive cases.
