Hyderabad: The CM Cup Telangana has emerged as a major platform to identify grassroots sports talent. Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari said the initiative aims to discover hidden potential across the state.
Speaking at the LB Indoor Stadium, the minister explained that officials designed the CM Cup as a continuous talent pipeline. It connects village-level competitions to the state stage. Moreover, he said over 5.4 lakh athletes registered and took part in the multi-tier tournament.
During the event, organisers felicitated state-level winners. Adilabad secured the overall championship. Meanwhile, Rangareddy and Karimnagar finished second and third. Officials added that structured competitions at multiple levels ensured wide participation.
The minister also highlighted targeted training programmes in sports schools and academies. According to him, dedication and consistency help shape champions from grassroots backgrounds.

As part of the initiative, the government is building long-term athlete pathways through structured coaching. In addition, it is strengthening institutional support across districts. Officials said sports associations and government departments played a key role in organising the event.
Furthermore, organisers honoured contributors for ensuring the tournament’s success. They noted that strong coordination between departments helped expand its reach.
Meanwhile, the minister cited Saina Nehwal as a role model. He urged young athletes to pursue excellence with discipline and perseverance.
