Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao have approved the Koheda fruit market project, paving the way for a ₹1,901 crore mega facility on the city’s outskirts.
The government will develop the proposed market across 178 acres in Koheda, making it the largest fruit market in India. Officials say the project aims to modernise agricultural trade while streamlining supply chains with world-class infrastructure.
The facility will include cold storage systems, logistics hubs, and packaging units. Additionally, planners are focusing on fast transport connectivity to ensure the quicker movement of produce from farms to markets. As a result, officials believe the market will meet international standards and boost competitiveness.
Currently, farmers face price fluctuations due to multiple intermediaries and inadequate storage facilities. However, the Koheda fruit market aims to address these long-standing challenges in agricultural marketing.
Koheda fruit market to improve farmer incomes
The new market will help farmers secure better prices by reducing the role of middlemen and improving direct access to buyers. Furthermore, the integrated infrastructure will minimise post-harvest losses and significantly enhance efficiency.
At the same time, the project is expected to unlock export opportunities by ensuring better quality standards and improved handling systems. Consequently, consumers will also benefit from a more consistent supply of fresh and high-quality fruits.
Meanwhile, the government plans to execute the project in phases, with a strong focus on timely completion. Overall, the initiative aligns with broader efforts to strengthen the agricultural economy and support farmers across the state.
