Adulterated curd unit busted in Amberpet, 2,500 kg seized

Hyderabad: Food Safety officials and Task Force police busted an adulterated curd unit in Amberpet and seized about 2,500 kg of chemically prepared curd during a raid on March 13.

Officials inspected a curd manufacturing facility operating under the name NR Enterprises near Rahat Nagar in Amberpet. During the raid, they found that the unit was producing curd without proper records and in unhygienic conditions.

The inspection team spotted flies in the prepared curd and detected chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Officials said the operators used substances such as caustic soda and acetic anhydride to prepare the curd, raising serious health concerns.

Police detained two persons, Naresh and Raghavendra, who operated the unit. Investigators said the suspects had sold the adulterated curd as genuine dairy product for the past six months.

During the operation, officials seized large quantities of materials from the unit. The items included about 2,500 kg of curd, nearly 15 kg of caustic soda and around 20 litres of acetic anhydride.

Authorities also recovered 150 grams of CHR Hansen culture and 150 grams of Danisco thermophilic cultures used in the preparation process.

Food Safety officials said the operators manufactured and distributed the curd despite poor sanitation and lack of proper documentation. They warned that authorities will take strict action against those involved in food adulteration.

Police said they will continue the investigation in coordination with the Food Safety department and initiate further legal proceedings.
