Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, Khairatabad Zone Team, arrested a gold chain snatcher involved in a case reported under Abid Road Police Station limits and recovered 17 grams of stolen gold, police said on Thursday.
The accused was identified as Mohammed Salman Pasha, 27, a driver and resident of P N Nagar, Yakuthpura, Charminar. Acting on credible information on 11-02-2026, the task force team apprehended him and seized the vehicle used in the offence along with other incriminating material.
Police recovered a 17-gram gold chain, a Suzuki Gixxer two-wheeler bearing TR No. TS11AHTR5673, an OPPO F31 5G mobile phone and net cash of Rs. 33,000 from his possession. Officers later handed him over to the Station House Officer of Abid Road Police Station for further investigation.
According to investigators, the gold chain snatcher hailed from Khajapur in Medak district. He studied up to Class 10 before discontinuing his education. He later moved to Hyderabad and worked as a driver in a four-wheeler travel company in Jubilee Hills.
Police said he faced financial difficulties due to family issues and insufficient income. During that period, he developed an addiction to online games, including Aviator. To meet mounting expenses and sustain his habit, he allegedly turned to crime.
On 08-02-2026, after completing his night shift, he rode towards the Abid Road area. Near Manisha Saree Building on Chapel Road, he spotted a woman walking alone. He targeted her, snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled on his motorcycle.
Gold chain snatcher case registered under Cr No. 42/2026
Based on a complaint filed by Ms. Dumpala Sirisha, 25, a staff nurse residing at Mounika Hostel on Chapel Road, police registered a case under Crime No. 42/2026 under Section 304 BNS at Abid Road Police Station on 11-02-2026.
Investigators tracked the accused using credible inputs and technical analysis. Subsequently, the Khairatabad Zone Task Force team apprehended the gold chain snatcher and recovered the stolen property.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Dy. Commissioner of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath, Inspector of Police P. Raghavender and SI P. Gnanadeep along with other staff of the Khairatabad Zone Task Force.
Police said further investigation is underway.
