ACB arrests Bandlaguda education office staff for taking bribe

Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau, Telangana arrested a junior assistant working in the office of the Deputy Educational Officer, Bandlaguda, after catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 for showing official favour, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused was identified as Sri Shash Prasad, Junior Assistant in the office of the Deputy Educational Officer, Bandlaguda. According to the ACB, the accused demanded and accepted the bribe from a complainant on February 4 for not removing the complainant’s school from the list of SSC board examination centres.

ACB officials said the tainted bribe amount of ₹10,000 was recovered from the possession of the accused at his instance. The bureau stated that the junior assistant had performed his duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage.

Following the trap, the accused was arrested and produced before the Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Nampally, and was remanded to judicial custody. Officials said the case was under investigation, and details of the complainant were withheld for security reasons.

The ACB reiterated that seeking or accepting bribes by public servants was a serious offence and warned government employees against abusing their positions. Officials said the Bandlaguda education office bribe case highlighted the importance of public vigilance in reporting corruption.

The ACB appealed to citizens to report any demand for bribes by public servants by calling the toll-free number 1064. Complaints can also be lodged through WhatsApp at 9440446106 or via the Telangana ACB social media platforms. Officials said the identity of complainants would be kept strictly confidential.
