Heavy rainfall in Telangana forecast as state faces rainfall deficit

Hyderabad: Telangana is set to receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department. The forecast comes even as the state records a sudden shift from surplus to deficit rainfall.

The IMD said a low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal would trigger heavy rains in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, and Warangal. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of up to 40 kmph are also likely across several districts.

Heavy Rainfall in Telangana forecast amid deficit concerns

Until August 18, the state had recorded 14 percent above-normal rainfall. But in the last five days, rain activity weakened, reducing the cumulative figures to nine percent below normal.

Nirmal district reported the steepest deficit at 44 percent. Peddapalli saw 21 percent less rain, while Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Nalgonda recorded 13 percent each. Nizamabad (12 percent), Mancherial (10 percent), Sangareddy (6 percent), and Medchal-Malkajgiri (4 percent) also posted deficits.

The contrasting trends underline the uneven monsoon performance across Telangana, raising concerns for agriculture and water resources.
