Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy warns BRS leaders over ‘agni gundam’ remarks

Hyderabad: Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy issued a strong warning to BRS leaders on Tuesday. He said people would push instigators into the very “agni gundam” they try to create for political gain. He accused BRS leaders of making reckless remarks after failing to accept defeat in the recent gram panchayat elections.

Speaking at a felicitation programme for newly elected sarpanches in Sattupalli, Ponguleti said Telangana would not tolerate renewed agitation politics. He said some leaders were trying to revive unrest in the name of district or regional movements. However, he warned that such attempts would fail.

Referring to the Telangana movement, Ponguleti said leaders who instigated youth survived politically. In contrast, thousands of innocent young people lost their lives. Therefore, he said the government would firmly resist any attempt to disturb peace for selfish interests.

Meanwhile, the minister said people were politically aware and closely monitoring developments. He added that leaders who provoked the public for personal benefit would face backlash. At the same time, he made it clear that the government would not allow violence or instability in the name of protests.

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy warning on district reorganisation plan

On district reorganisation, Ponguleti said the Indian National Congress government would correct unscientific divisions created earlier. He said the process would begin with discussions in the Assembly. Later, the government would appoint a committee headed by a retired judge. It would then collect public opinion before Cabinet approval.

Assuring transparency, he said the government would carry out reorganisation only in a people-friendly manner.

Turning his attack towards the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Ponguleti said its leaders ruled Telangana for 10 years. He accused them of pushing the State into decline. Now, he said, they had resorted to irrational talk after facing defeat in gram panchayat elections.

Mocking BRS claims of victory, Ponguleti said celebrating a handful of sarpanch wins was laughable. In contrast, he said Congress secured nearly 69 per cent of gram panchayat seats. Moreover, he predicted an even stronger performance in upcoming municipal elections. According to him, an over 80 per cent win would not be surprising.

The programme took place at Rani Celebrations Convention Hall in Sattupalli. Matta Ragamayi Dayanand chaired the event. Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, along with senior Congress leaders, party workers, and supporters, attended the programme.
