Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. Tarakarama Rao on Thursday unveiled a 2026 calendar centred on the party’s minority welfare legacy at Telangana Bhavan. Compiled by senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail, the calendar combines Gregorian and Hijri dates and carries selected quotes from BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
The calendar has been designed as a retrospective document highlighting a decade of BRS governance. It outlines welfare initiatives and infrastructure projects undertaken for the Muslim community during the party’s tenure in power. These include flagship schemes such as Shaadi Mubarak, distribution of KCR Kits, and the establishment of minority residential schools under TMREIS. Annual Iftar parties hosted by the government are also featured as part of the documented initiatives.
Minority welfare legacy reflected through governance initiatives
In addition, the calendar records major institutional developments, including the construction of mosques in the new Secretariat, restoration of the historic Anees-ul-Ghurba, and the development of facilities such as Urdu Maskan and the Jamia Nizamia auditorium. According to party leaders, the compilation reflects sustained policy focus rather than isolated measures.
Political representation milestones achieved during BRS rule also form a significant section of the calendar. These include the appointment of Mahmood Ali as Telangana’s first Muslim Deputy Chief Minister and later as Home Minister, along with nominations of Muslim Members of Legislative Council and appointments to minority-focused corporations.
Speaking at the launch, BRS leaders stated that inclusive development formed the core of their governance approach. They emphasised education, dignity, and equal opportunity as guiding principles behind the party’s welfare programmes.
Addressing reporters, Abdullah Sohail credited the BRS administration with giving minorities greater visibility and participation in public life. He criticised the Congress government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging neglect of minority commitments. Sohail stated that none of the promises listed in the Congress Minorities Declaration had been implemented and claimed that less than half of the allocated minority welfare budget had been spent over two years. He further said that the Minority Sub-Plan and the proposed Rs 1,000 crore subsidised loan scheme for minority youth remained unfulfilled.
The event was attended by MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan and other senior BRS leaders.
