Hyderabad: The Congress party has stepped up efforts to reconstitute the Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) as it gears up for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The move signals a renewed focus on organisational preparedness.
PCC observers Mohammad Javeed and Subramanyam met applicants for key organisational posts as part of the exercise. Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah and senior leaders also took part. The interactions covered posts such as vice-president, general secretary, spokesperson and social media coordinator.
Assembly in-charges from Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Charminar and Malakpet joined the meetings. Party leaders said their presence ensured constituency-level inputs during the selection process.
Consultations signal shift in approach
Syed Khalid Saifullah said the Hyderabad DCC reconstitution marked a clear shift from earlier nomination-based practices. He said the party had adopted a transparent and consultative process. He added that the leadership would announce the final team after completing scrutiny.
The online application process closed on January 4. Khalid said it received a strong response from Congress workers, especially in the Old City. He attributed the turnout to growing confidence in the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Khalid said the party would soon begin ward-level preparations for the GHMC elections. The exercise will cover all 44 divisions under the Hyderabad DCC. He also announced an upcoming strategy meeting to finalise election plans.
Referring to governance initiatives, Khalid cited schemes such as free bus travel for women, ration card issuance and free fine rice distribution. He said these programmes had benefited over 70 per cent of the Old City population.
He also highlighted ongoing metro rail works in Old City areas. He said visible infrastructure development had strengthened public trust. Khalid stressed that the Congress aimed for long-term development, particularly in areas that had remained neglected for decades.
The party will ensure representation for women, youth, SC, ST, BC and minority communities in the final list of office bearers, in line with recommendations from AICC observers.
