Hyderabad: Members of the Osmania University Muslim Khabrastan Committee on Monday brought issues related to the Osmania University graveyard to the notice of the city’s Deputy Mayor. They submitted a representation seeking urgent infrastructure improvements.
The committee met Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy at her residence on January 5. During the meeting, they highlighted problems at the Muslim graveyard located in the P&T Colony area within Osmania University limits.
Ahead of Shab-e-Meraj on January 16, 2026, the committee urged the authorities to improve basic amenities. They said large numbers of devotees are expected to visit the graveyard. Therefore, they stressed the need for better facilities to prevent inconvenience.
Moreover, the members sought proper lighting arrangements, removal of overgrown bushes, and pruning of tree branches. They also requested sanitation works and fresh painting of existing structures.
In addition, the committee demanded the installation of 40 street lights, halogen lights on three central poles, cement benches, and renovation of toilets. They further sought the installation of three overhead Sintex water tanks to ensure adequate water supply.
Osmania University graveyard facilities sought before Shab-e-Meraj
The committee said completing the works before Shab-e-Meraj would help devotees perform rituals smoothly. They added that the graveyard requires continuous civic attention due to heavy footfall during religious occasions.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy responded positively to the appeal. She assured the delegation that she would take up the matter with the concerned civic officials and initiate necessary steps to resolve the issues.
