Hyderabad: Director General of Police Shivadher Reddy issued a strong warning on social media misuse. He said police will take strict legal action against those spreading fake news, indulging in overaction, or engaging in character assassination online.
The DGP said he has repeatedly cautioned the public about irresponsible social media behaviour. Moreover, he stressed that police will not tolerate the misuse of digital platforms to defame individuals or spread false information. He added that this stance remains firm since he assumed charge as the State police chief.
He made it clear that circulating fake news or making false allegations will invite legal action. Targeting personal lives or dragging family members into online attacks will also attract consequences. According to him, any post that damages a person’s dignity or reputation falls under this warning.
However, the DGP clarified that lawful criticism remains acceptable. At the same time, he warned that crossing legal limits will trigger firm police action.
