Hyderabad: A family in Manthangoud village under Basheerabad mandal of Vikarabad district has taken all three Panchayat posts allotted through the reservation system. The positions include the sarpanch seat and two ward memberships.
ST reservations in Manthangoud pave way for one family to claim multiple Panchayat posts
Sixteen years ago, Bhimappa and his wife Venkatamma moved to Manthangoud from Mailwar. Their house lies in the ST-General category. Ward 4 carries the same reservation, while Ward 6 is reserved for ST-Women.
Since no other ST families live in the village, only this household qualifies for all three posts. As a result, the Bhimappa family now holds the sarpanch role and the two ward seats. Locals say the situation reflects both the benefits and the unusual side effects of reservation-based local governance.
