Hyderabad: Vemula Prashanth Reddy has been serving as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Balkonda since 2014, retaining the seat in 2018 and again in 2023. In the 2023 Assembly election, he secured 70,417 votes, defeating Muthyala Sunil Kumar (INC), who polled 65,884; the winning margin was 4,533.
Political and personal background
Born on 14 March 1966 in Velpur (Nizamabad district), Prashanth Reddy entered the Telangana Legislative Assembly in the state’s first term and has represented Balkonda across three consecutive terms. A senior figure in the BRS, he has focused his constituency work on road connectivity, drinking-water reliability and municipal services in Balkonda’s towns and mandals, with periodic mandal-level reviews to track sanctioned works and fund utilisation.
Tenure in the state cabinet (2019–2023)
From 8 September 2019 to 6 December 2023, he served in the Telangana Cabinet as Minister for Roads & Buildings, Legislative Affairs and Housing. In that role, he oversaw state road development and coordinated House business during Assembly sessions, while supervising implementation through departmental reviews and field inspections. After his ministerial tenure ended with the change of government in December 2023, he continued as MLA, prioritising time-bound execution of ongoing road and civic-amenity projects in Balkonda.
