Shailesh Chandra appointed Tata Motors MD and CEO as company announces major leadership reshuffle

Mumbai: Tata Motors announced sweeping changes to its executive leadership on Friday, appointing Shailesh Chandra as the company’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Additionally, the automotive manufacturer named current Group Chief Financial Officer PB Balaji as the new CEO of JLR Automotive. Both executives will assume their new roles on October 1.

Balaji submitted his resignation from Tata Motors and will step down from his current position on November 17. Subsequently, the company appointed Dhiman Gupta as the new Chief Financial Officer, with his appointment taking effect from November 17.

The management restructuring was disclosed through an exchange filing on Friday, September 26.

Tata Motors leadership transition brings electric mobility expertise to top role

Chandra played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s electric mobility strategy during his tenure. He initially joined Tata Motors in 2016 as Head of Corporate Strategy and Business Transformation before advancing to President of the Electric Mobility Business.

Prior to his position at Tata Motors, Chandra worked at Tata Sons from 2013 to 2016, where he contributed to Group Strategy and the Chairman’s Office operations.

Regarding his educational background, Chandra holds a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University. Furthermore, he completed his management studies at SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.

Chandra has also served as a non-executive director on several boards, including Tata Technologies, Fiat India Automobiles, and international subsidiaries such as Trilix S.R.L Italy and Tata Motors Design Tech Centre PLC UK.
