Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone on Thursday arrested a bike theft offender and a juvenile. The team also recovered four stolen motorcycles worth ₹6.5 lakh.
Accused arrested, vehicles recovered
Police identified the main accused as Merishetty Nageshwar Rao (23), a resident of Vidya Nagar, Nallakunta. The second accused is a child in conflict with the law.
According to police, the duo carried out multiple motorcycle thefts across areas under the Cyberabad Commissionerate. As a result, investigators linked them to cases registered at Miyapur, Chanda Nagar, and Gachibowli police stations.
During the operation, police recovered four two-wheelers. These included a Honda Dio (TS08HP4286), a Yamaha R15M (TS31K4448), a Yamaha R15 (AP40AM0604), and an Avenis scooter (AP39QF6843). Together, the vehicles are worth about ₹6.5 lakh.
Confession reveals motive
Investigators said the accused confessed to four theft cases booked under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Moreover, police described Nageshwar Rao as a habitual offender with prior involvement in property crimes.
Meanwhile, police said he befriended the juvenile and developed an addiction to online cricket betting. Therefore, the duo planned thefts to fund their expenses.
They conducted reconnaissance, targeted parked motorcycles, and used or disposed of the vehicles. Consequently, the thefts spread across several police station limits.
Arrest during patrol
On January 8, 2026, the West Zone Task Force team intercepted the accused during a patrol in the SR Nagar area. The team acted on credible information and made the arrests.
