SR Nagar police arrest two absconding ganja traffickers, seize 67 kg contraband

Hyderabad: Police arrested two absconding accused in a ganja trafficking case and seized 67.18 kg of contraband during a joint operation conducted by SR Nagar Police and the Jubilee Hills Task Force on February 10, 2026.

According to police, the arrests followed a breakthrough made earlier after credible information led to a raid at a hotel in SR Nagar on February 7. During that operation, police apprehended Rinita Raita, a 29-year-old labourer from Odisha, from Room No. 404 of a hotel, and seized 11.370 kg of ganja along with a mobile phone from her possession. A case was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and she was remanded to judicial custody .

During interrogation, the involvement of two other accused came to light. Police identified them as Maniel Dalabehera, a native of Odisha described as the main ganja cultivator, and Ismail Raita, a Hyderabad-based employee of a private company, who was allegedly acting as a sub-peddler. Both were found to be absconding at that stage .

Ganja trafficking case leads to major seizure

Police said they later received specific information that the two absconding accused would arrive near the Begumpet 33/11 KV sub-station area. Acting swiftly, the SR Nagar Police team, along with the Jubilee Hills Task Force, rushed to the spot and apprehended both accused.

During the search, police seized 67.18 kg of ganja and two mobile phones from their possession under proper panchanama. Both accused were arrested and produced before the court for further legal proceedings under the NDPS Act .

Police said further investigation was underway to identify other links in the ganja trafficking network and trace the supply chain operating between Odisha and Hyderabad.
