Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir has warned that the derecognition of SMVDIME signals a dangerous trend of institutional bias overriding merit.
Speaking at the Khatm-e-Nabuwwath Conference in Kamareddy, he described the National Medical Commission’s action as a response to the religious profile of students rather than any genuine infrastructural deficiency.
SMVDIME derecognition undermines merit-based admissions
He pointed out that admissions were carried out strictly through NEET counselling by the JKBOPEE and complied with established guidelines. Despite this, protests erupted demanding religious prioritisation, a demand he termed unconstitutional.
Shabbir Ali questioned the credibility of the infrastructure argument, noting that inspections and derecognition followed immediately after political pressure. He linked the episode to broader policy patterns that, according to him, systematically marginalise Muslims.
Highlighting concerns over the Umeed Portal, he cautioned that community assets could face future restrictions. He urged increased focus on education, religious awareness, and institutional preparedness.
He concluded by reiterating that constitutional rights are not favours but guarantees, calling upon communities to remain united and proactive.
