Hyderabad: The Prison Department stall won the Best Stall award in the State Government Stalls category at the 85th All India Industrial Exhibition (Numaish) held at Nampally Exhibition Grounds.
The award marked the fifth time the Prison Department stall received the recognition at the annual exhibition. Dr. Soumya Mishra, IPS, Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services, Telangana, accepted the award from Minister for Prohibition & Excise, Tourism & Culture Jupally Krishna Rao in the presence of Exhibition Society Vice President R. Sukesh Reddy, Secretary B. N. Rajeshwar and Treasurer N. Sanjeev Kumar.
Officials said the Prison Department stall stood out for its prison-themed design, which attracted large crowds. The structure replicated a jail setting and created a strong visual impact on visitors.
Charminar models crafted by inmates emerged as a major attraction. For the first time, prisoners displayed natural honey harvested and packed within prison units. Women-focused products also recorded strong sales. In addition, waste-to-wealth items showcased at the stall received appreciation from visitors.
Prison Department stall records Rs. 67,31,342 in sales
The Prison Department stall achieved total sales of Rs. 67,31,342 during the exhibition, reflecting high public demand for products made by inmates. Officials attributed the sales growth to improved presentation and coordinated planning.
Dr. Soumya Mishra personally visited the stall several times and held coordination meetings with Exhibition Society officials. These efforts helped enhance the stall’s layout and visibility, contributing to increased footfall and sales.
Inspector General of Prisons N. Murali Babu and Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Hyderabad Range, Dr. D. Srinivas were also present during the award ceremony.
