Hyderabad: Officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday directed departments to ensure foolproof arrangements for a large-scale disaster mock exercise. The drill will take place on January 21 at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad.
Ahead of the exercise, NDMA officials held a review meeting with officers from multiple departments. During the meeting, they assessed preparedness and finalised arrangements. They also explained response protocols, coordination plans, and communication systems. Moreover, they outlined the emergency services that must activate immediately during a disaster.
Meanwhile, officials said the mock exercise will simulate a multi-hazard scenario. Authorities will conduct the drill on Wednesday within the airport premises. The exercise will focus on non-aviation disaster response. It will also clearly assign roles to each department under a pre-approved action plan.
Disaster mock exercise to test inter-departmental coordination
NDMA officials said the drill will test responses to floods, major accidents, and sudden emergencies. At the same time, it will evaluate how well agencies coordinate to prevent loss of life and property. Therefore, the exercise will offer practical insights into the state’s preparedness. It will also help identify gaps that need improvement.
However, officials clarified that the event is only a mock drill. They urged the public not to panic or spread rumours. According to them, the main goal is to build awareness and promote calm responses during real disasters.
Finally, NDMA officials instructed all departments to stay fully prepared. They also asked teams to participate actively to ensure the exercise runs smoothly and successfully.
