Mumbai fire exposes safety risks in high-rise buildings

Hyderabad: The Mumbai fire in Dahisar East on Sunday has renewed concerns about safety standards in high-rise buildings. The blaze in Shanti Nagar’s New Jan Kalyan Society claimed one life and left 18 injured, including a child in critical condition.

Officials reported that the fire began at about 3:00 pm on the seventh floor. Investigations linked the cause to faulty wiring in the basement, which spread through the electrical duct to higher levels. Declared a Level-2 fire, the blaze quickly engulfed multiple floors.

Mumbai fire raises questions on preparedness

Firefighters struggled against heavy smoke while rescuing residents. Seven fire engines and several emergency vehicles were deployed. In total, 36 people were rescued and admitted to hospitals.

One woman succumbed at Rohit Hospital. A differently-abled girl and a child remain in serious condition. The incident has drawn attention to fire safety compliance in Mumbai’s high-rises, where faulty wiring and duct systems pose recurring threats.
