Mother jumps into Hussain Sagar after giving phone to children

Hyderabad: A woman died by suicide after jumping into Hussain Sagar on Sunday, shortly after handing her mobile phone to her children near Tank Bund, police said.

According to officials, the woman, identified as Vasantha from the Pahadi Sharif area, had been living with her two sons after the death of her husband four years ago. Police said she had been facing financial difficulties and emotional distress following her husband’s death.

Investigators said Vasantha brought her children to the Tank Bund area and gave them her phone, asking them to play. Moments later, she reportedly walked towards the lake and jumped in. Passersby alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and initiated rescue efforts.

Hussain Sagar suicide probe focuses on family circumstances

Police said preliminary inquiries indicated that the woman was struggling with loneliness and economic pressure. The children were found safe at the scene and were later handed over to relatives, officials said.

A case was registered, and further investigation was underway to establish the circumstances that led to the Hussain Sagar suicide. Police said statements from family members and witnesses were being recorded as part of the probe.
