Hyderabad: A kite electrocution incident in Sangareddy district left a minor boy critically injured after he suffered a powerful electric shock while trying to retrieve a kite entangled in a high-tension power line.
The incident occurred in Dakoor village when the boy was flying a kite near his house. According to preliminary information, strong winds carried the kite into an overhead high-voltage wire. When the boy pulled the string forcefully in an attempt to free it, electricity travelled through the thread, causing a severe shock.
The child collapsed immediately after the shock and sustained serious burn injuries. Family members and local residents rushed to the spot and shifted him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors described his condition as serious due to the intensity of the electrocution.
Kite electrocution incident exposes danger of flying near power lines
Residents said the area has several exposed high-tension wires running close to residential houses. They added that children often fly kites in the neighbourhood without realising the risks posed by overhead electricity lines.
Police and local officials advised parents to ensure children avoid flying kites near electric poles and high-tension wires. They said even dry kite strings can transmit electricity when they come into contact with live wires, leading to life-threatening accidents.
An inquiry is expected into the safety conditions of overhead power lines in the locality, while the boy continues to receive treatment at the hospital.
