Hyderabad: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of damaging India US relations by prioritizing personal ties with Donald Trump over national interest.
Speaking in Kalaburagi on Sunday, Kharge said Modi’s endorsement of Trump before a global audience dented India’s diplomatic neutrality and tarnished its international reputation.
India US relations: Kharge links Modi’s foreign stance with domestic failures
Kharge said India had long maintained a non-aligned foreign policy that balanced global partnerships. Modi’s “Trump-first approach,” he argued, departed from this tradition.
He also attacked the government on GST, saying Congress had long warned against multiple slabs. According to him, BJP’s four-slab system burdened common citizens, while reforms were made only before elections.
Analysts noted Kharge’s remarks are aimed at framing Modi as both diplomatically reckless and domestically opportunistic ahead of polls.
