Integrated planning to match infrastructure with the scale of a megacity, says Minister Ponnam Prabhakar

Hyderabad: District In-Charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the State government is following an integrated megacity planning model. The aim is to match Hyderabad’s infrastructure growth with its rising population and expanding limits.

Speaking after inaugurating the Chikkadpally–Domalguda link bridge across the Hussain Sagar surplus nala, the Minister said the government is focusing on coordinated development. He added that the administration led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is strengthening roads, drainage systems and basic civic amenities. As a result, the city’s rapid expansion can be managed efficiently.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation built the bridge at a cost of ₹6 crore. Meanwhile, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Member of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, MLA Muttha Gopal, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, and GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan attended the inauguration.

According to Mr. Prabhakar, the merger of municipalities within and around the Outer Ring Road has reshaped Greater Hyderabad. Consequently, the city has emerged as the largest in the country by area and population. Therefore, he said infrastructure must expand in proportion to public demand.

Integrated megacity planning for civic growth

The Minister said the integrated megacity plan covers roads, stormwater drains, street lighting and parks. In addition, it includes other essential civic facilities. He explained that the government is implementing comprehensive plans to address current gaps. At the same time, it is preparing for future requirements.

As District In-Charge Minister, he assured coordination with public representatives. This, he said, would help improve civic services and enhance quality of life. Moreover, he stated that Hyderabad is receiving special priority due to its role as the State headquarters and its strategic importance.

Meanwhile, the Chikkadpally–Domalguda link bridge has provided immediate relief to commuters. Officials said travel time between Chikkadpally, Ashok Nagar and Domalguda will reduce significantly. Additionally, connectivity to Liberty Junction, the GHMC head office and the Secretariat will improve.

Residents living on both sides of the nala welcomed the bridge. They also thanked the State government and GHMC for resolving a long-standing commuting issue.
