Hyderabad: The Telangana IAS Officers Association on Friday strongly condemned media reports targeting a woman IAS officer of the Telangana cadre. The association described the reports as baseless, malicious, and harmful to the dignity of women officers.

IAS body slams media report, seeks apology

In a statement, the association objected to a programme aired by a Telugu news channel. The programme linked the officer with a state minister. According to the association, the report relied on unfounded allegations and created needless suspicion.

Moreover, the association said the officer has discharged her duties with integrity. It added that such reporting crossed ethical limits.

Furthermore, the association warned that irresponsible narratives damage more than individuals. They also weaken the credibility of the civil services and the constitutional process governing postings and transfers.

Therefore, the association demanded immediate corrective action. It asked the channel to issue a public apology. It also called for the removal of the content from all platforms.

The association rejected claims that women IAS officers receive “convenient postings.” It said such portrayals amount to character assassination.

In a letter, association president K. Ramakrishna Rao and secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the telecast harassed women officers. They also warned that rebroadcasting such content sets a dangerous precedent.

Additionally, the association urged media houses to follow journalistic ethics. It said media trials and rumours presented as facts are unacceptable.

Finally, the association warned of legal consequences. It said those responsible for defamatory reporting will face legal action if such practices continue.
