HYDRA development revives Nallacheruvu Lake in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency said the development of Nallacheruvu Lake in Kukatpally was nearing completion, with only a few finishing works pending, and confirmed that the facility would be opened to the public soon.

Even before the official inauguration, the revamped lake emerged as a major public attraction. Residents from surrounding neighbourhoods, within a radius of nearly 5 kilometres, began visiting the premises in large numbers. Children, youth, women, and senior citizens were seen using the space daily.

Visitors said they were using the lake premises for walking, playing shuttle, and other recreational activities. As a result, the area transformed into a lively public space, particularly during morning and evening hours.

Nallacheruvu Lake development shifts public perception

In September 2024, HYDRA carried out a large-scale demolition drive to remove illegal encroachments around Nallacheruvu Lake. At that time, the action drew criticism from several sections, with concerns raised over the impact of the demolitions.

However, with the visible transformation of the lake into a clean and accessible public asset, public sentiment shifted significantly. Thousands of residents now appreciated the Nallacheruvu Lake development, describing it as an important step toward environmental protection and planned urban development.
