Hyderabad: A Hyderabad student suicide case came to light in Meerpet, where a degree student allegedly died by suicide after her pet cat passed away, police said.
The incident occurred under the limits of Meerpet Police Station. The deceased, identified as Himabindu (20), was a first-year BSc student and a resident of Badangpet’s Venkatadri Nivas.
According to police, she had been raising the pet cat for the past two years. After the animal died recently, she reportedly fell into distress. Subsequently, she consumed pesticide at her residence.

Family members said they did not expect her attachment to the pet to lead to such an extreme step. They stated that she had been deeply affected after the cat’s death.
On receiving information, Meerpet police reached the spot and shifted the body to Osmania Hospital for postmortem. Meanwhile, officials registered a case of suspicious death and began an investigation.
Police said they are examining whether the suicide was solely linked to the pet’s death or if other factors were involved. Further inquiry is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the Hyderabad student suicide.
